Has anyone had any technical probs with YMAA DVD's?

Postby BeastNovot » Fri May 13, 2005 10:00 am

Greetings all! I am new to the forum, and recently was given the YMAA DVD's of the Yang style Tai Chi and the White Crane Qigong. They are both excellent teaching tools, but I have run into some difficulty with them playing on my DVD player. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. In addition, the White Crane DVD will almost always have difficultly with the Soft Qigong portion. Has anyone else had this problem? I bought another DVD player, but haven't hooked it up yet.

Thanks!

2 questions:

How old is your DVD player?

Did you check the disc for scratches?

Frodo: The letters, it's some form of subtitle.
Gandalf: It is the language of Miramax, a dubbing that I will not utter here.

Hi, thanks for the reply!

The DVD player is actually an Xbox, so that makes it around 4 years old. I have checked the DVD for scratches, and there are not any.

Thanks!

ah, the old xbox.

Have you tried it on anything newer than that? I think that the YMAA DVDs have certain regional settings (I'm not 100% positive, so I may get flamed by the publishing guru soon) that may not be that compatable with the box. Try a DVD rom on a computer if you have access to one, and see how that works.

Or maybe it's just a sign that you should study Shaolin instead.

Thanks for the reply... I had a newer DVD player, which broke, and the Tai Chi DVD worked on that (the DVD player broke before I bought the White Crane Qigong DVD). I just bought a newer DVD player (specifically so I could use these DVD's), so I'll let you know if it worked on that...

Have a great day...

New DVD player...

Postby BeastNovot » Thu May 19, 2005 8:49 am

Although the Tai Chi DVD will play if I select "Play all", it still has problems (i.e. the screen goes black and the player starts making wierd sounds) going to some scenes if I make selections from the menu... so a new DVD player partially fixed the problem, anyways... fortunately it is relatively easy to jump to the desired scenes in a stepwise fashion, chapter by chapter.

NTSC ok, I think

Postby BeastNovot » Fri May 20, 2005 12:52 pm

Thanks for the suggestion, Tosh. I checked the DVD player and it supposedly can play NTSC coded DVD's, if I understand it correctly. I'm not sure about the Xbox, as I didn't check it. I have used the DVD for several days now, and it is relatively easy to use the chapter/scene jump functions to get to where I want to go.

Thanks for all advice rendered!
