Energy work for Cancer

Postby DEADLI. » Tue Apr 27, 2010 5:05 am

Hi all,
The mother in-law of a guy i work with has got leukemia (cancer of the blood), i have given her a copy of the Spring Forest Qigong DVD (Level 1) and the manual to try to kick start her immune response, and give her more energy. The hospital sent her home saying she was too old/weak to have any more radio/chemo therapy...they have basically sent her home to die, there is nothing more they can do.

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding this issue?

For this type of cancer, I most often hear Embrace the Tree recommended.

Teach her Embrace the Tree. The weight of the arms cause the lower back area to get stronger, which energizes those tendons. The standing weight-bearing exercise stimulates white blood cell production in the pelvis, and red blood cell production in the femur bones.

She should breathe as slowly and deeply as possible.

She should practice as long as she can every day, several times a day, relaxing and meditating in the posture, not straining.

Tell her to exhale longer than inhale to expand Wei Qi. Hope this helps.

Tough spot...I think back to when my grandfather was still alive and had pervasive cancer and they *still* wanted to do chemo. That stuff really kicks your rear.

If its at that point...honestly practices may help her out a little bit and help cultivate the fight in her (so by all means, a good option a few times a day,) but if you're too bad off for them to want to do chemo then she'd be just as productive investigating causes and conditions of life, letting go of regrets, and be able to leave here with a warm and open heart, mind...attachments to here will only hinder her next stop, wherever that may be. That's not to say you give up...ever...but dying is completely natural and something we all experience - I had a pretty tough time with my mother after my grandfather died because she just could not get the "but I am never going to see him ever again" out of her head. There's no point in settling on the loss aspect of it - because like the world around you, there's ten million negative things one can focus on. Best to appreciate the gifts one has been given, cherish them while they are still with us before going the way of all impermanence.

I almost wanted to snip all of that because I dont want to sound fatalistic or like its such a done deal that nothing may be done...

Since leukemia is a blood/marrow disorder, standing and cultivating things that will help the bones is appropriate. Since the bones are the source of blood...perhaps some bone marrow nei kung/bone breathing...maybe even try something like the white skeleton meditation in addition to holding the tree?

Thanks joe,
But i was impressed she even gave the qigong a try, getting her to visualize and focus on her skeleton/bones i think may be pushing it a little.

heh...no problem man, just trying to think of something that might be helpful! I mean, if she knows that the bones and marrow are the factories of good blood, that may shed some useful light ;)

No... the advice was spot on man, it's just that people who have never done this kind of stuff their whole life, never even thought about it, and then you tell them to go meditate on their bleach white bones are prone to just stare back at you in total non-comprihension

I was going to suggest that she maybe do some anapana, something nice an basic, then maybe i could drop in the white skeleton meditaion. What about focusing awareness on the femur bones, as a start? After i read your post about the skeleton meditation, i investigated it a little on the web, then sat for a while with attention on the femur bones, after a short time they began to feel energized.

The femurs and the bones of the spine produce the most, so if she's amiable to the idea that's a good place to start, although the complete white skeleton goes through all of the bones.

I hear ya about people though...every so often I'll interject a little bit to friends and family, I mostly just get looked at like I'm a weirdo with 3 heads

It is a mental and spiritual thing, but mainly it is physical. She needs to stand up if possible, and get the cells of the bones, tendons, marrow, and blood stimulated and energized. Qigong has been shown to boost the immune response to withstand the rigors of chemo.

They work well together.

But its important that it be a simple, concentrated, relaxed experience. Not a strain, or a stressful thing.

Providing the specialist MD can do nothing then a potential next step is TCM specialist in cancer/leukemia.
A first step is nutrition (whether TCM or registered dietician).
For someone who is extremely weak (probably abnormally high WBC count), not ambulatory, etc qigong is not a good option.

One is draining an already compromised system so it makes no sense to overburden with qigong!

In a clinical study of qigong "as a therapeutic aid for patients with advanced cancer, 127 patients with medically diagnosed malignant cancer were divided into a qigong group of 97 patients and a control group of 30 patients. All patients received drugs, and the qigong group practiced qigong for more than 2 hours a day over a period from 3 to 6 months. Both groups improved, but the qigong group showed improvements four to nine times greater than the control group in strength, appetite, diarrhea free, and weight gain of 3 kg. The phagocytic rate, which is a measure of the immune function, increased in the qigong group but decreased in the control group.
There is ample evidence from studies to show that therapy by a combination of qigong exercise and drugs is superior to that of drugs alone.

Over and above this, i got some green tea, and mushroom antioxidant complex, both of which are heavily anticancerous.

The criteria seems to be that the practitioners were under the care of a specified professional, were receiving drug(s) for x period of time.
Per the initial question of leukemia, to wit, too old, to weak, nutritional status lacking, it would be impossible for the subject to meet the basic minimal (i. mean practice time) of 2 hours.

Great job in tracking down the basic information!
One has to be cognizant of the interaction of chemotherapy, specific drugs used in the process and qigong.

There's an appropriate amount of exercise/qigong/meditation for any age, condition, etc. Its just a matter of what quantity and quality is appropriate - but to do nothing whatsoever only hastens the eventual separation of consciousness from the body. Life is motion; stasis...well, you know ;)

Breat Cancer

Postby Urgeist » Mon May 03, 2010 1:11 pm

Hey,

I hate to change the topic a bit but I know someone who had a precancerous lump in their breast. It was removed and tretaed with a couple of weeks of radiation. What kind of Qigong should this person practice to prevent another cancer coming back? Preferably something on a DVD...

regards,
UG

Since healing effects are among the first manifestations of most any practice, its tough for me to say, except that just by doing some sort of cultivation one will benefit. Since they usually go after lymph nodes when a mastectomy is performed that would seem to indicate that cultivating the spleen would help, but the spleen is also associated with the stomach & pancreas, so perhaps it would also be prudent to lay off on things that will tax the pancreas too much (i.e. overabundance of sugar) so that the spleen isnt overburdened in trying to balance.

Just my conjecture 8)

For breast cancer healing and prevention, swing arms.

Keep the arms loose and swing them. Gently flex the back like a turtle shell, and then draw the shoulders back and open the chest. Release stagnant energy in the chest, torso, shoulders.

Exhale and release through the laogong cavities in the centers of the palms, and out through all ten fingers. Relax, breathe deeply. Practice until you break a light sweat.

Hi U,
Spring Forest Qigong (SFQ) is pretty good, and easy to learn. Lots of testimonials on Youtube of people's healing experiances with this system.
Healing stage 4 breast cancer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vy-1GU4sfdw

Below is a link to the fundamental exercise of SFQ. It can be practised for 10-60 mins. The main focus of this movement is on opening up the conception vessel (ren mai), all the channels in the front of the torso, and healing the five yin organs.

The Level 1 SFQ DVD contains the active exercises, including the movement of yin and yang. It's a very simple and effective system.

Also Broccoli has been in the headlines lately, as the number one food for breast cancer prevention.

All the best.......

Hi

No, there are no cancer-specific DVDs from YMAA. There may be in the future.

But, there is a lot of research being done now about the power of focused intention in healing. (The Yi leads the Qi)
