Taiji qiu / Taichi ball in old Wu lineage footage

Postby clairvoyager » Sun Apr 25, 2010 4:08 am

I found it really interesting to see some rare solo push hands drills in this old footage from a student of Wu Jianquan in 1937.

Starting at about 5 min, Zhu Minyi, the performer, engages in practice with a stick suspended horizontally with rubber bands. I had never seen such a drill and it looks great practice!

Later, at about 6 min, he plays with a big ball suspended from an elastic band. His adherence skills are superb, and again this is a kind of drill I had not seen before.

The rest of the video is interesting too, specially if you are familiar with the Wu style, and also contains practices that would be commonly considered out of a taijiquan curriculum, such as playing with a light ball with the feet or archery.

Any comments?
