paranormal Qigong

I am fairly new to Qigong. I have attended a couple of seminars in Boston and have not noticed some of the things that I find online. For example, distance energy healing or energy manipulation which reminde me of a Pentacostle healing revival. Does Qigong encompass all of these techniques or are some condidered fringe?

From what I know, when you get into person to person healing you are starting to get to a bit more new agey fake qigong. Some of it is accepted (reiki) but even then you have to be careful. Qigong is supposed to be for self-cultivation, healing other people is a bit more unorthodox and less accepted.

Nah, this is the beginning of where...pardon the term...where the men get separated from the boys, where the weekend warriors get separated from those who have put together the time with the correct methods (of which there are many.) Things like healing others and the like require diligent practice - no gung, no healing others. If something like this is considered "new-agey" then its merely because of the fact that out of all the cultivators out there, there is really a small percentage with true accomplishment.

Joe is right.

But, Dr. Yang focuses the seminars on practical fundamentals of qigong, so that attendees can learn the important stuff and enjoy the benefits of qigong practice right away.

He discusses these things in passing, but maintains a healthy modern skepticism at the same time.

The "fringe" stuff can happen naturally, and should not be a focus of your practice or study.

Mantak Chia has a book called Taoist Cosmic Healing which is a book about how to do energy healing. I have this book and have used it with great effect on my kids :-), though as Joe said it is important to have a strong foundation in your personal practice as well.
