QiGong for Injuries

Postby Urgeist » Wed Mar 24, 2010 7:00 pm

Hi,

my Father, in his fifties, injured his shoulder coming off of a bicycle. What QiGong exervises might help speed up his recovery?

Larry Wong has some good ones on youtube.

not sure how bad the injury is though, so he needs to be careful to do things in a manner that will gently work range of motion and not cause further injury!

He needs to go and see a orthopedic practitioner, or at best a GP to ascertain the severity of the condition.
If anything, range of movement exercises for upper body/shoulder area as opposed to qigong. Qigong can surely be used as a relaxation tool but he need more of an OT/PT regimen to recover.

I thought Qi Gong was good for internal injuries?

If, as stated, then he definately needs to see a specialist!

Physical therapy exercises, with qigong theory within, is the ideal solution.

Some injuries require surgery. Others require rest and immobilization. If he can move, he should get advice from a doctor exactly HOW to move to improve his specific injury.

Once he knows the correct movements, he can use qigong, by getting into a meditative state while doing his exercises, and breathing deeply while paying complete attention to the physical feeling in the injured area.
