Pick up the moon from the sea bottom (XingYiQuan Qi Gong)

Postby silenoz » Mon Sep 21, 2009 3:52 pm

Hello,

I am doing the Qi Gong exercises in Dr. Yang's book XingYiQuan. However, I do not completely understand the first exercise "Pick up the moon from the sea bottom" / "Hai Di Lao Yue".
The steps are the following:

1. Mabu
2. Breath twenty times
3. Bring your palms close to the floor, circle hands
4. go up with arms high, as lifting sth heavy
5. take arms down and up to the breast
6. circle your arms.

After step six, the text says "Repeat twenty times". Does this mean that I need to circle my arms 20 times, or that I need to do the full exercise 20 times? Doing the full exercise 20 times means that it would take about 30 minutes...
Can anoyne help me here? What I also would love to know is, how often I should circle my hands in step 3.

Thanks very much for any help
Hank

1-6 :)
circling...I think should only need to be done once, but if you're feeling a particular connection to the ground, I dont see that it would hurt to do more.

Thank you very much for your reply. So do I understand correctly, that the full exercise has to be repeated 20 times?!

Yes, you repeat the full exercise 20 times. This is kung fu qigong. You are building the body structures, or jing patterns, for Xingyiquan.

It shouldn't take a half hour though.
