what's on for 2009?

Postby darth_freak » Tue Nov 04, 2008 10:00 am

hey there!

I was wondering what YMAA will publish for the year 2009? Or if something will be published... With Master Yang in the mountains, he may not be avalaible to do videos... or will there be shooting in Ca?

Cheers!
"Turn your butt!"
Master Yang.

I think there may be an added lecture bit, but Dvivid would know more. Here's the text from the catalog:
Shaolin Long Fist
Kung Fu
Intermediate Sequences
Performed by Nicholas C. Yang
and Senior Students
Nicholas C. Yang instructs and demonstrates four
intermediate-level Shaolin Long Fist sequences
and their martial applications.
Yi Lu Mai Fu and Er Lu Mai Fu, the first and second
Ways of Ambush, are powerful fundamental
sequences that instruct clever and subtle methods
for defense and attack. Both contain practical and
effective martial applications for striking, kicking,
blocking, and withdrawal techniques.
Shi Zhi Tang, the Crossing Sequence, builds on Yi
Lu and Er Lu Mai Fu with the addition of different kicks, jumps, side
door attacks, and applications of more forceful techniques. Xiao Hu
Yan, the Roaring Tiger Sequence, is a challenging and exciting
sequence combining techniques from Long Fist and Northern Praying
Mantis. Xiao Hu Yan emphasizes low stances, powerful kicks, leg
sweeps, trapping, and striking. Each form is divided into sections to
help you learn gradually at your own pace. This format helps you in
understanding and practicing the techniques. These traditional
sequences are an excellent way to train speed, strength, timing, and
sense of enemy. They are fitting sequences for demonstrating your
skills and techniques during competitions.
Dr.Yang, Jwing-Ming makes a guest appearance and discusses the history
and theory behind each sequence. This DVD builds upon the
skills in the Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu Basic Sequences DVD and the
Shaolin Kung Fu Fundamental Training DVD.
$69.95 • Approx. 180 min. • DVD-NTSC
aright! It's a new one then! Sweet!
Thanks! :D

I've a got a minor question though: it says Xiao Hu Yan is Roaring Tiger sequence but last time I saw Master Yang he told me it meant little tiger's swallow or little tiger swallow... :?

"Roaring" sounds cooler. I think that is just a common translation of Xiao Hu Yan for some reason, leftover from the 1980's...

Yes, it will have new lectures by Dr Yang, and in fact it is a completely new production by Nicholas. The old VHS programs for these sequences are not adequate for our standard of production on YMAA DVDs nowadays.

You can see all the new titles here:

Basic Sequences DVD \ New Intermediate DVD

Postby muehlbauer1375 » Tue Feb 17, 2009 11:57 am

David or anyone else who may know,

Are there any plans to 'upgrade' the Basic Sequence DVD to a newer production? Possibly with newly filmed sequences?

Also, does anyone know about the possibility of the Changquan book being republished with updated photos, info, etc.?

Thanks for your time,

These are two ideas that have already been discussed. Not in the works yet however.

The Longfist Intermediate sequences has been filmed and it is amazing, in-depth, and comprehensive instruction.
