Hey,

Thought I'd get a thread going about praying mantis.

Anybody know ANYTHING about Mimen Tang Lang Chuan? The only instructor that I know of is Su Yu Chang, but I've never studied with him.

I'm about to start training in mantis style, should be only another month, two tops before I live in either Minneapolis or St. Paul, then I can study Kwang Sai Jook Lum Praying Mantis under Master Gin Foon Mark. There are some videos of him up on youtube and myspace (I can't post them, as I'm on my work computer and such sites are banned) and you can check him out at http://www.masterginfoonmark.com. Personally, I'm very excited for the chance to train with him. If you do a little research on him you'll find that not only is he a qigong and mantis master, but Bruce Lee trained under him for a little while!

Ah Ha! Check this out!

One day soon that will me MY sifu! I am so excited...

Tang Lang Qi Shou, Praying Mantis Seven Hands, is a fairly common short routine used by some of the major branches of the Mantis School as an introduction to the style. As a routine, it consists of ten patterns, at which point one may repeat, invert & perform the mirror motions, or return to the starting point. In this way, it is similar to Xing Yi's Five Element Interlocking Fist Routine. Though called "Seven Hands," it actually contains many more techniques when examined closely.
