Hello.

1. Schizophrenic people should not practice Qigong. Energy follows consciousness. If your mind is scattered and imbalanced, your Qi circulation will be too. You should instead learn basic relaxation/stress-relief skills, and you will know when you are ready to take your simple meditation into deeper practices like Qigong exercises.

2. Qigong deviation is rare and unlikely, and you should not be afraid to practice qigong if you are healthy and have a strong foundation of awareness of reality. If you are a deluded person who has mental problems, chemical imbalances, or anxiety, see #1.

3. Herbs and drugs should be avoided unless required temporarily for a serious condition or injury. Qigong practitioners strive to regain the full potential of their connection to nature and the natural way of being. This means we must slow down to a pace of living that is more like it was in ancient times, avoid excessive stimulation from electronics such as TV/computers, eat a basic diet of natural foods without chemicals/preservatives/pesticides, and practice simple relaxing meditation every day to support your Qigong exercises. If you do not live naturally in this way, you will encounter difficulty in your practice because your body and mind will be in an unnatural state.

Go outside and breathe slowly, quietly, deeply...

Enjoy your practice.

Embryonic Breathing specifically requires the ability to "hold the center"; to stay focused and relaxed while leading qi to the upper and lower dan tians.

Yes, it is too complex for beginners, and for anyone with mental issues.

They are varied and it may depend on the type of qigong practiced.
One that I experienced continuously was that I was growing like a giant and the cars around me seemed to be getting smaller!
The system I was practicing involved bring water into baihui and through body to rest in yongquan, then an open close to 'warm' 'spread' qi at qihai then do shougong. Practice time was 1 hour!

Luckily my teacher warned me about scenes like this so he encourages students to bring them up and assess a solution!

Hi,

ok, last post was may 12. maybe im a littel late... but i want to write this cause im also involved in this kind of trouble.

think your friend maybe should make distance from this psychological diagnosis. Cause often this kind of diagnosis is not very „yang keeping“. Energetical disbalance sounds nicer and is nearer by the truth. Think standing like a tree and breating are very good. Diet is important (good food). And nature ( water, trees) is importent cause it can open and close at the same time.

Best wishes to your friend and you.

I would have to disagree with this. Schizophrenia can be cured in part by chi gong practice, together with medications and supplements and the right type of therapy (support from friends and loved ones)

Qi Gong aids with posture which corrects a lot of the energy imbalances of schizophrenic people. This atunes them to reality and does not distract them from it.

Qi Gong helps with interpersonal relationships which is another important cure for the condition.

Qi Gong improves general health and therefore aids in psychosis recovery.

Qi Gong gives the patient a purpose and practice to hold on to, which aids in recovery.

Qi Gong also attunes the person to the energy flows of the world and empties their head of bad energy, something that is also good for psychosis.

From what i've been told these symptoms are simply blockages ofenergy being cleared away, and are not permanent....but yes i agree they could be quite disturbing for someone allready mentally imbalanced..

First let me say that any method that is simple, easy to do without any mental imagining, thought ideation, etc is good exercise that balances mood state and makes you relax (somatic sense of ease and feeling light as in homeostatis).
People with a diagnosis of psychiatric abnormalities (voices, inability to think clearly, etc) and then being put in a situation of imagining images just to continue with said qigong method is putting oil to a fire. Not a good start. The situation could increase severity of their condition and cause harm so it would good to just stick with baduanjin.

If you put someone under a MRI you will never find "blockage' showing up but chemical deficiencies will show up in laboratory tests. A mental blockage will never show up on an MRI!

Better safe than sorry. Basic relaxation techniques and meditation are the best choice I think. No qigong.

This is a small part but my belief to name the specific systems, formerly known as neigong, neiyanggong, yangshengogng, etc to qigong, tended to 'distort' the whole yangsheng <life nourishing> practices to what it is today! David Palmer's exposition did a lot to explain how and why this happened so we are stuck with what is known but we have to be cognizant of difference and how they can help with simplifying our lives. A difficult task, indeed!
