It's mentioned in the beginning of the DVD that Baguazhang is based on the 8 trigrams of the I Ching.

What is the best English book that introduces the beginner to the I Ching?

"The Tao of Yijing" by Jou Tsung Wah looks pretty good, haven't fully read it yet though. Author is (or was) a master in Chinese martial arts.
