Understanding Qigong: DVD 1

Postby stephenbuck415 » Tue Mar 20, 2007 3:53 pm

I began watching the Understanding Qigong DVD #1 yesterday. I'm very pleased to see this information presented in a rational, scientific manner.

I want to gain a better understanding of the material. Today I have ordered the books below assuming they are related to the material being discussed:
The Root of Chinese Qigong; Secrets of Health, Longevity, & Enlightenment,
Qigong, The Secret of Youth and
Qigong Meditation: Embryonic Breathing.

What other books best compliment the Understanding Qigong DVD series (disks 1-3)?

Thanks

That kind of depends a little bit what martial art you study.

I don't owe, nor have seen the DVD's yet, but I've read that "The root of Qigong" covers a lot of ground on Qigong, but doesn't go very deep into each subject.

"Embryonic breathing" is a very good book on mastering the breath. "Understanding Qigong DVD 3" is also about this subject.

"Qigong, the secret of youth" is a very good title as well, but beware, the contents are not to be practiced without a qualified instructor. Bone marrow Nei Gong can be dangerous for your health if practiced the wrong way.

If you're practicing Taijiquan I'd recommend "The essence of Taiji Qigong" for another title in your collection.
Also, I think this is a very decent book (see link), it's not from YMAA but from a good friend and co-author of some book(s) (Emei Baguazhang) from YMAA.

You'll definitely need Small Circulation before you start digging into Secrets of Youth. Read that (SC) after Embryonic Breathing.
I'd also recommend Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body by BK Frantzis, especially if you're just getting into the art. That and Root would make a good first two books to tackle.
Good Luck!

If you want to meditate or not ...

Indeed I should have entered "Small Circulation" too.
If I were you I would collect that whole series, that means, by the time "Grand Circulation" is published ... BUY IT !!

See this topic on "Grand Circulation" to see an estimated date of publication.
