Xing Yi book and DVD

Postby John the Monkey mind » Fri Sep 02, 2011 1:42 pm

Why is the 5 element fist form in the Xing Yi book and the Xing Yi DVD different? The DVD form seems compacted. Which form should I be practising? Currently I have studied both but practice the set in the book.

Do or will YMAA ever offer European seminars in Xing Yi?

Hi

I dont know why Master Liang chose to show variations of that form, sorry.

Good timing with your other question. For the first time ever, Nicholas Yang is offering a short Xingyi seminar at YMAA France this Fall:

I asked a freind for you, and he said:

"I had asked this question myself when first encountering the book and VHS. They are different forms. The form in the Book of Master Liang is how we were taught it and I believe that it is known as the long linking form. I have not encountered too many people (actually just one; the form of one master from Beijing I trained with was pretty close) who have trained the long form. I had wondered if Master Liang made it up to balance the left and right sides while practicing the form, as the other form is quite one sided. The form on the DVD is known as the short form. Its is the one you'll see most of the time performed with/in some variation from school to school."

Thanks for the information. I am kicking myself for not being free that weekend for the French seminar. I have family flying to Warsaw to around the time. Luckily the YMAA school in Warsaw is just starting its term so I will have a lot of Taiji practice to occupy me until next time.
