advice for further studies of Taiji

Postby leo1975 » Tue Jan 02, 2007 7:49 am

Hi, I am currently learning a version of Yang Chen-Fu Taiji along with some Qigong (all beginner level). I would like to study from another teacher to compliment the Taiji material I am studying already.
Yang Jwing-Ming seems to be a well known and respected figure in the Taiji community and I am interested in his DVDs for this purpose.

What DVD would you recommend I purchase first, second etc... until I get up to 'Chin Na'?

Also - Is there any info on the Yang linage that Yang Jwing-Ming teaches?

Thanks,
Leo.

Dear Leo.

If you are intersted in studying Dr. Yang's Yang Style Taiji, you could start with his book and / or DVD title Taijiquan Classical Yang Style.

If you have been stuying Tai Chi for a while, there is no reason you could't jump in to Chin Na (however, you will need a partner). Here is a link to Dr. Yang's book. The related video's can be found on this page. (The video's are only available in VHS at this time).

I encourage you to use the Taijiquan forum. http://www.ymaa.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=3
Other student's might offer more indepth ideas for you.

You can also look at Dr. Yang's seminar and training program.

He provides a thorough progression through Taiji training and suggests study materials.

Hope this helps.

Master Yang's barehand taiji form is slightly different from Yang Chen Fu's taiji, as it comes from Yang Ban Hou and modified a bit by master Yang himself.
"Turn your butt!"
Master Yang.
