Training in Andover vs Boston YMAA

Postby rich251076 » Mon Dec 01, 2008 5:45 pm

Hi,

I now have time to commit to beginning classes in Shaolin Long fist with YMAA and will be driving in from Marlborough, MA.

I would like to know if there is any advantage to training in the Boston facility over that of Andover MA, in terms of the curriculum and quality of learning.

Does anyone here train at either faclity and what are your comments?

Thank you

I don't have any experience training in Boston, but I know that the director and YMAA president, Nicholas Yang, is a great martial artist and has much knowledge to share. Also, there should be many qualified people there who will be able to help you out as well. More about their school at http://www.ymaaboston.com

I spent almost all my life training at YMAA Andover (aka Yang's Fitness Center), so here's some information for you.

My teacher, Mr. Chris Fazzio has been practicing and teaching for almost 20 years and has personally taught me for about 15 years. He is a YMAA qualified Assistant Instructor and is one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever met regarding martial arts.

The owner of YMAA Andover is Mr. Alex Kiesel, also a YMAA qualified Assistant Instructor. He is one of Dr. Yang's first 8 disciples and has over 30 years of martial arts experience. He can answer any questions you have about the curriculum.

My guess is that you will be signing up for the adult classes. Unless the schedule has changed, they are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. There is also a sparring class that is held every Friday night.

If you have any questions, just contact them.

There is also a new YMAA school in Amesbury (it may be kind of far) now as well. The director there, Scott Tarbell, is a friend and training partner of mine. He also has much knowledge of martial arts and comes from a Wing Tsun background. Information for his school at http://www.ymaakungfu.com

If you plan on stopping by Andover, please let me know. I'll be back from mid-December to mid-January and would love to train with you :) I'm pretty sure you get a (or a few) free trial classes.

Good luck in your decision!
Jon

Hello Rich,

I train at the school in Andover. In terms of class times, there are adult classes available now on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights which start at 7:15pm and run until 8:30pm. As Jon says, we would be pleased to welcome new students, if you call the school Mr. Kiesel will book you a session to watch a class and meet the instructor.

Cheers Inga
