sleepy train

Postby tico » Sat Sep 08, 2007 12:51 pm

Hey,

I've got a stupid qwestion,

Sometimes when I get up for 24 hours or 36 hours. When I get tired I got to train wushu (wuji) or qi gong. Once I got training of chou chi ling. When I finish I'm not tired anymore. But now my qwestion is, Is it good to do?
Isn't it bad for the qi circulation?

Thanx Tico

You should sleep 8 hours a day or you will be excessively Yang at all times, and will age quickly. Hormone production is essential for health and for Qi cultivation, and it takes place at midnight WHILE you are sleeping.

I'm giving the best advice possible for someone capable of sleeping.

Since birth I sleep about 4 or 5 hours a night, sometimes less. Occassionally I crash for 8 if I change my routine or work out extra hard.

If your're tired, your liver is tired. You age faster. If you don't sleep, AND you're not tired, its less of a concern.

Ultimately, it goes back to our discussion of circadian rhythms and hormone production. I quote me:

In the morning, your hormones are at their highest level in your body in your waking hours. They're produced overnight while you sleep primarily, starting at midnight. If you're still awake and meditating you can use this extra fuel in your practice. BUT, if you're awake and just consuming energy at midnight, you'll miss the window during which your body produces most of the hormones, and your health and longevity will suffer. And you'll generate less Qi. Because the hormones are a catalyst to make the metabolism more efficient in producing energy, or Qi.

Re: morning - in the natural 24-hour cycle of Qi circulation, the Qi is ascending the governing channel in the morning, up your back. Similarly, the Yang energy in nature is rising in the morning, as the world turns...

And go to sleep by 10PM.

Re: circadian rhythms. There are over 100 of these natural rhythms in the body, and they're still under much study. Some are set by the liver, ie. depending upon what time you eat. Some set by the adrenals...but all are controlled by a 'master clock' in the hypothalamus which responds to natural light. In other words, it is set by the Earth's 24 hour rotation. We can 'reset' this clock by eating late, or staying up late under artificial light, but doing so changes the natural functions of the body's systems which are meant to occur synchronously with the natural rise and fall of the earth's energy. So, any YMAA students reading this who are interrested in Dr. Yang's research and advice pertaining to sleep/hormone production/longevity and qigong practice, go to bed by 10pm. Resetting the clock to an unnatural time has adverse effects. Since qigong practice aims at harmonizing with nature, this is fundamentally important.

Your eating pattern decides your thinking pattern.

If you eat a big meal during the night time, it can keep you awake. Therefor it is the best to eat the biggest meal of the day at noon between 12:00 & 15:00 hours midday time, when the sun is at it's highest position you digest your food better because of the outside temperature.

This prevents aging.

If you constantly eat at night time, your body has to produce it's own heat to digest. This causes your body to age faster, but this is not the case when you eat round 12:00 o'clock midday time at high noon. Maybe it's even better to eat at 15:00 hrs, because masses react slower. So eventhough the sun is at it's highest at 12, the temperature of the environment needs more time to heat up which is basically round 3.

Basically the heat of the sun generates the motor of your body.

When the heat of sun does not heat your body, your body needs to generate it's own heat which will increase aging process.

About sleeping patterns:

Your liver estimates the moment you fall asleep and the moment you wake up, those who sleep short periods of time have a healthy liver. What sleeping does is send nutritions, minerals, vitamines & proteines to your brain, internal organs and muscles, the process of sleeping is mostly coordinated by the liver.

What time you eat decides untill when your energy supply lasts.

If you eat just one meal a'day between 12 & 3, you will be very tired at 10 o'clock in the evening. Go to bed early and wake up early, if you eat a good breakfast early then you will have enough energy to go to noon. But if you skip your breakfast, then you don't have energy during the morning times. During the night, you do not need an energy supply. Basically if you want to sleep early, don't eat after 5.

You will be tumbling to sleep at 10 and wake up early with the sunrising.

That's the best for everyone, wake up at sunrise and go to sleep at sunset. You don't need electrical lights, just go to bed with the setting of the sun and wake up when it rises. If you wake up or are still awoken when dark, then just meditate sleep.

You can fake sleep but it is better to meditate sleep.

How to meditate sleep, is by relaxing the entire body and the liver. When cold shivers come, the liver is sending nutrions to the brain. That's when you meditate sleep, by regulating the energy resupply coming from the liver with ultimate relaxation.

Also useful when you didn't sleep for 36 hours and have an appointment.
