beginner self-study recommendations?

Postby mercurial_mind » Tue Nov 06, 2012 3:45 pm

hey folks, just was wondering if someone could recommend a basic set (or sets) of chi kung exercise that i could safely try on my own? specific references to any books written by Dr Yang are appreciated as well

i did a little shaolin kung fu and tai chi in college, but that was many years ago, have done nothing related since, and am now in my late 30s

thanks for any thoughts

Hi mercurial_mind,

Here : http://ymaa.com/publishing/start-here/qigong you will find a recommended order of study for Qigong.

First, an article about qigong http://ymaa.com/articles/qigong-training-theory.

A good start is the Baduanjin (Eight pieces of brocade) set the way Dr Yang teaches it.

I recommend working with the book (a bit of useful theory is included in it) and the DVD. If you have a look at the reviews given (Amazon), you will see some people criticizing the DVD content. Don't trust them, it's just that they have missed some part of it. The DVD has several parts: demonstration, detailed explanations of each movement, lecture etc.. Be sure to explore all of it.

Best,
