DR. YANG TEACHING METHOD

Postby josemunoz63 » Fri Aug 31, 2012 4:11 am

Dear all;

After reading Dr. Yang books and watching his DVD's the only I can tell is that he has made an exceptional work. His explanations are extremely technical and clear. However I miss the use of "visualization" in his teaching. Don't you think that images, visualization, should be widely use in his teaching ?

interesting point. though Dr. Yang's explanations are quite technical and precise, he uses many images that promote visualization. for example, during several of the exercises on his white crane Qi gong DVD, he describes the body moving, "like a soft whip." though technical, I associate this particular description with visualization because, by visualizing a soft whip, our bodies can begin to move like a soft whip.

also, Dr. Yang often references the Taiji classics and other Qi Gong treatistes (or as he likes to call, "the ancient documents") in his books and DVDs which themselves are full of images and visualization.

that said, I find it helpful while practicing meditation, mabu, and moving postures to imagine images like the ocean, a stream or a flower blooming. the list of images can go on and on, but visualization can be found in many of Dr. Yang's teachings.

I am not referring to those "standard" visualizations, I am referring most to Qi flows visualizations, in colors, in balls, as rivers, or cosmic connections.

In my opinion, it is a pitty that being Dr. Yang's knowledge so impressive, the teaching method concerning Qi was not acompanied by a full use of visualization, which is the most powerfull tool that we have.

For instance, Master Wong Kiew Kiet being not so technical as Dr. Yang, but he uses a very good visualization toolings.

My idea is to get the best of both

a tool to have in the box, to be tempered with 'watching' ;)
Even in mildly complex systems, any outcome is the wrong thing to target, with the process being where the focus should be.

Yes this tool ( visualization ) may be tempered with watching, and perhaps this should be really good way, but it is true that for every exercise, and for every meditation, to imaging to powerful. I think that we need to use imagination and visual tools

joe, i think you used too many words and confused them! In the beginning, and well, any time really, THE single most important phase of learning is to WATCH.

I thought I wrote an article on this very topic at one point. Maybe I am mistaken, and it never got to the "finished" stage, so maybe it isnt out.
