white crane "soft" white crane "hard"

Postby vvanesse59 » Mon Apr 30, 2012 10:10 am

Can someone save me some time and let me know difference between the two? and where I can begin some study/learning/dvd or whatever. I see Dr. Yang has White Crane Hard qigong but was unable to see if he has SOFT, dvd or any info. Maybe I overlooked soft? thanks

Well I went on to look a little deeper in the dvd/book listings and found they are both on one dvd. I looked at the trailer and read a few reviews and wonder if there is any other dvds or information on "soft" white crane anyone knows of as well? :)

You might want to go ahead and get started with that one even if you're not interested in practicing Hard QiGong or White Crane Gong Fu.

I highly recommend this dvd.

Shaolin White Crane Hard and Soft Qigong

There's a lot of great information and interesting techniques. The music is great and one of the best things about it is you can actually practice along with the video demonstrations.

As you know, hard and soft are two different ways of approaching practicing QiGong. The hard QiGong trains Qi circulation while tensing the muscles/tendons/ligaments in a precise manner. It is also a fundamental training for the development of jin manifestation. The soft
QiGong trains the same thing but with relaxed muscles. Which reminds me, with a job that requires me to type all day, I need to practice my Octopus Gong more often!

The book is good too: Essence of Shaolin White Crane.

It's actually the book in my QiGong library that I find myself consulting the most - even more than Root of Chinese QiGong.

Well, these are the only two YMAA White Crane reference materials I have. I haven't seen the Gong Fu ones so someone else can let you know how the soft aspects are presented in those.

SOFT qigong involves moving the body in a large range of motion with the least muscular tension possible. The entire body is relaxed and loose throughout the practice, which allows you to develop the strength and flexibility of your joints, while gently increasing your energetic circulation. This qigong is good for your general health and it gives you whipping power for point striking.

HARD qigong involves tightening the muscles during or at the end of the movement. Muscular tension blocks or traps energetic circulation into the bones, tendons, muscles, etc. This qigong develops the physical structure and increases the quantity of your energy aggressively.
