Postby Brad » Sat May 16, 2009 2:17 am

What is the best Qigong or taijiqaun ect video that YMAA has to offer for health ? I have someone very close to me who is trying to keep the cancer away, she already beat it once and wants to do anything she can to increase her health, any help would be appreciated. Thanx.

Hi,
In order to have your immune system functioning at peak levels you need an intergrated whole lifestyle approach, which includes Qigong, and also nutrition.
First off here are a few things that inhibit the immune system:

Refined sugar-inhibits the functions of the white blood cells/immune system for up to 5 hours after consuming.

alcohol-as a simple sugar, has the same effect. In addition it also affects the functioning of the liver, the bodys chemical plant, responsible for the creation of your own natural antioxidants (such as SOD, and Co-Q10)

Caffeine- which inhibits the absorption of vital nutrients, in addition to directley suppressing the immune system.

Stress-this suppresses the production of white blood cells and can lead to the inhibition of the thymus gland. The lymphatic cells in the thymus, and the lymph nodes throughout the body disintegrate, reducing the protection offered by these important parts of the immune system.

But enough doom and gloom, here are the 'Fighting Five,' vitamins and minerals that boost the immune system. Vitamins A, C , E, Zinc and Selenium. If you go to whfoods.com (http://www.whfoods.com/foodstoc.php), you can check out the foods and essential nutrient list, it will tell you the best sources of these nutrients, and give you the latest scientific research.

As for Qigong, Dr Yang says in a few of his books, the best Qigong practice is to remove Qi stagnation and maintain smooth Qi circulation in the internal organs. For this i would suggest Medical Qigong, there are several DVDs of this type available from YMAA.

Eight pieces of Brocade-Ba Duan Jin
Understanding Qigong 4 - Four seasons Qigong
Five Animal Sports
The Essence of Taiji qigong
White crane soft Qigong (including the stretching and warming up set)

This is brief. But in all honesty, if you asked 10 people on this forum what qigong was best for this situation, you would probably get 10 different answers. We are all bias to the ones we practice, naturally.

Hope this is useful

Great info, people!

I make the DVDs. I recommend the Eight Brocades DVD in cases like this, because you can just turn it on, follow along, and GET INTO IT quickly, without need for much study.
