why do I feel this?

Postby artanes » Thu Oct 25, 2007 2:49 pm

O Most Knowledgeable Ones,

I do not practice qigong or meditation. I do have basic knowledge about qi and its flow through the body, having read "The Root Of Chinese Qigong" and a few other books from Dr. Yang.

so, being an otherwise normal person, can you tell me why it is that quite often when something is pinched, poked, hit, or pressed on my arms/legs/hands/feet, I feel a twinge somewhere on my torso?

usually it's on the ribs on the sides or to the front, anywhere from the height of the navel up to the pectorals, it can be on either side. I can put my fingertip right where it was, it's so small and precise I could probably even put a needle right through the exact spot.

does this happen to everybody? or to just those who practice qigong (even though I don't)? or just me??

would this be a function of qi, or nerves? could it mean I have too much or too little qi flowing around?

There are people who live to be over 90 years and older and who do not know about taijiquan or qigong.
They are optimistic about life, are active, they may smoke here and there (no excess), they may drink a few cervezas but their every day life is active. If you have a hose and you stop flow at a certain point, up areas will show the pressure and at some point that greater back pressure creatse a stronger force (greater than the blocked point) and burst!

No activity causes stiffness so that decreases range of movement! Have you seen the fat kids lately? Only an indication of things to follow!
Stretch, become active, occupy the mind in a positive way!

in completely different ways and to a lesser extent, yes. I'm not all that well versed in TCM though, a doc or acupuncturist would be able to make a diagnosis.

The feeling that you've described doesn't seem to have anything to do with qi. And since you don't practice qigong, I doubt it's a result of your training. It's most likely just a local muscle reaction, hence the "twinge" feeling.
