Qi as Electromagnetic Energy

Postby styrofoamdog » Tue Sep 18, 2007 11:51 pm

I haven't posted in a few years, but I thought it might be a good time to come back.

Lately I have been pondering qi and its existence as bioelectricity. It seems as though modern tools are able to detect the resistances of different points on the body to locate the various acupuncture points. But has anyone mapped out the resistances or gathered data on them? Do those electric tools actually work to open points? And if so, does anyone know more than the basics about their design?

Maybe understanding more about qi as electromagnetic energy will become an important discovery for qigong? I think that Dr. Yang is curious about some of these things as well. Any thoughts?

Hey, welcome back and feel free to post more often :) I do know that Master Yang recommends the book The Body Electric by Robert Becker (ISBN 0-688-069711). I must confess to not having read the text cover to cover, just dipped in and out, but it is fascinating and quite scientific. Certainly a good place to start.

Yes, Dr Yang very much relates electromagnetic energy to qigong practice. Many acupuncturists now use electricity in their practice: electrified needles, to do exactly what you're asking about.

Sure, research is being done:

I've also seen an acupuncture device that supposedly gauges specific point levels to help makes diagnoses. Cant find it right now though, I think I have it fav'd at home...
