qigong & cancer

Postby joeblast » Wed Mar 14, 2007 2:34 pm

Hello All...
This really nice lady I work with saw one of my qigong books and was asking about it and I happened to mention that its prescribed to cancer patients - shortly after that she hit me with the fact that her husband has lymphoma and they're interested in exploring any ways possible to fight it. I'm just looking for some suggestions or a good direction to point them in that would be most beneficial for their situation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks,
Dan

I would try NOT to give people like this too much confidence in the system.
Because, the way I was taught, Qigong can heal but is a better system to prevent rather than heal, especially when they (the patient/practitioner) have no prior Qigong (or similar) background.

Hi Joeblast, sorry but I can't give you much advice as my knowledge on Qigong is very limited but you might find this article on Helen Liang of interest.

He should stand in Embrace the Tree (Three Treasures) as long and as often as he can. It can build a lot of Qi in the lower back area and boost the immune system, and it stimulates blood cell production in the pelvis and femurs. A YMAA student named Bob Ellal practiced this for hours a day and healed himself:

The mind is infinitely powerful. If a person visualizes their healing, and has a passionate belief and gratitude in their healing without doubt, they can heal themselves of anything.

Thoughts become things.

I believe he will heal.

qigong and cancer

Contact Dana Farber Cancer Institute (Boston). They have a mind-body institute and are doing qigong/cancer research. You'll get credible information there. Ramel Rones is on their staff.

Greetings everyone.

I practice and teach a Japanese healing system that has its roots in Qigong (which is why I'm now beginning to study and practice Qigong). Also I am a Hospice Volunteer and provide emotional support not only to the person who will die (of cancer or other terminal illness) but the family as well. Last year my partner and I lost the battle to intestinal cancer (he passed just last month) and today my family and I await the passing of my mother who is now in a nursing home due to smokers cancer.

Based on my experience I believe there is a now a difference between "healing" and "curing" due to the way language evolves in its use within society.

Curing would be something a western medical doctor can effect. A problem is diagnosed and appropriate medical attention is given to treat it, in the best case scenario resulting in a cure.

Healing would be something a Qigong practitioner can help the person attain. This would not necessarily result in a cure of any ailment unless it was psychosomatic. Healing would help a person find peace between the current condition of their body and their mind/soul. Helping a person heal helps them find peace in their life.

I'm not presenting the above as "this is what the terms mean" but rather my opinion of the way I see the terms being used and evolving in American society today.

I believe that Qigong is one of several systems that can help a person heal by giving the practitioner a sense of actively "doing something" to improve their condition. I agree with SunTzu that it would be harmful to instill a sense of false confidence in the (any) system (i.e. "practice Qigong and be cured of all that ails you") but I would present it in a manner that help inspire a person to attain something more - a sense of hope.

Stephenbuck415, I am sorry to read about those dear to you being critically ill. Condolences to you and your family.

I use qigong for maintenance, if you like, preventative measures, but if I ever find myself falling ill I will definately be using it to battle disease. I will find out all that western medicine and TCM have to offer to make an informed decision and then add that to make a programme of healing. And I totally agree with Dvivid, the power of the mind is amazing, and positive thought cannot be discounted.
