lessons on vacation

Do you guys ever seek out other teachers or look up local places to practice when you're traveling?

Definitely been dreaming of it, and checked out schools from some of the destinations I intend to travel some day...but haven't had the chance yet. :)

I have done so.
Mainly calling them up and finding out what their system teaches.

A ton of people don't do push hands and or don't work with others unless they pay. I like crossing hands and playing but am not going to shell out money to work with taiji people in general.

I agree, and it is a poor indictment of the state of practice in the West. Whenever I am in China, no matter the location, I have always found people to be enthusiastic about a bit of playing with strangers. Whether that is simply something to do with the novelty of being a foreign player or not I do not know (and don't really care because it is such fun, and is done without any animosity). All for free too - which is kinda the point.

I've done so a bit when traveling outside the US. I think it's a great experience if you find a group with a good attitude. It can be a little humbling because if the way you train is really different from the group you're visiting, you risk just looking incompetent to the other students at first. As long as that isn't a thing that stresses you out, I think it's a good way to broaden your experience a little!
