Postby Josh Young » Sat Feb 11, 2012 11:45 am

This comes from a student of Yang Ban-Hou.
Many call this old Yang.
It is marvelous taijiquan.

Great form! Wang Langting was supposedly one of the best students of Yang but instead of passing on his system, Yang kept it in family while Wang sifu taught the style to Li, who synthesized Li style. Zhou sifu also brings his piqua and baji influences to Old Yang style of Li Family. That was a mouthful!

I think there may be more than one Li style.

There is General Li Jing Lin, who was a student of either Banhou or Jianhou, this style is called Li style. It arrives via Jianhou/Banhou (it isn't clear) through General Li Jin Ling, who teaches Yim Sheung Mo aka Yen Shang Wo, who teaches Ku Yu Chang, who teaches Master Lam Kam Chuen, who teaches Sifu Rand (I do not know his first name) who is alive today.

This so called li style is also called Quanping, but to add to the confusion there is more than one Quanping style! Here is an example of a version of this style from Yim Sheung Mo

And one coming from Li Jinlin/ Li Jing Lin

Then there is Li Rui-Dong, his style is said to be Li style too, but has elements added to it.

I have to admit I find it confusing there seems to be at least 2-3 Li styles that art distinct!
Oh the madness!

Wang Lanting was a direct student of Yang Luchan, and he (Wang sifu) passed that version of Yang style to Li Ruidong (Li style). Zhou Jingxuan is a nominal exponent of Li style though he apears to have added piqgia and baji elements to Li's concepts!
