Question regarding the difference of two Taiji Theory books

Postby Mountain Lim » Wed Aug 10, 2011 12:35 pm

I just ordered some DVDs and books on Dr. Yang's Taiji Chuan and Qi qong but they haven't arrive yet. But, I was wondering whether one of the books I ordered "Taijiquan Theory of Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming: The Root of Taijiquan" is similar to another book, "Tai Chi Theory and Martial Power: Advanced Yang Style 2nd ed."? I don't want to buy the latter if it covers the same thing.

I appreciate any input from members here who may have info regarding those two books. Thanks!

Hi

Taijiquan Theory of Dr. Yang is his most current personally expressed taijiquan theory after 40 years of practice and research. It is much more comprehensive.

Taiji Theory and Martial Power speaks specifically on the subject of jing, or jin as it is written in the book, or "expressing power" and the theory behind it.

You will find some overlap, as Dr Yang is perhaps overly-vigilant about being sure a complete concept of taiji is included in each and every document. (He has a lot of experience translating rare taiji and qigong theory texts that only talk about one aspect of internal cultivation, and would not be a proper foundation if it were the one and only book a future post-apocalyptic person discovers in their search for teaching.)

So, yeah. Keep, 432: Taijiquan Theory of Dr. Yang.

He wrote it in Chinese poetry so he could fully express himself, and then translated that into English, which was an unusual workflow that he felt was necessary to transmit the deep and profound philosophy of taiji and the martial art of taijiquan.

Thanks a lot for the info, Dvivid. I am looking forward to study the "Taijiquan Theory of Dr. Yang" as soon as it arrives and acquire the other book later when I am ready to study the theory of jin.

It's marvelous that Dr. Yang included the Chinese poetry since I studied classical Chinese in high school, though it's been quite a while ago.
