Advise on Learning

Postby Bonz » Fri May 01, 2009 8:21 am

I would like to know the best way to start learning Taijiquan. I'm currently a second year student in Hapkido but would like to learn Taijiquan as well as Chin Na. Living in a remote part of Maryland (close to West Virginia) does not afford me the opportunities to explore these things with teachers that KNOW what they are doing.

I have looked into the different videos sold by YMAA, and find it rather daunting to know just which one is best. I would like to eventually working into Pushing Hands training & the Martial Applications.

In regards to Chin Na, I have found the "Chin Na in Depth" DVD's to be outstanding, and mesh quite well with my Hapkido training. I'm planning on traveling to Boston this summer for the seminar as I know that having an instructor is essential to really understanding the technique/Art.

I'm hoping to also attend a seminar for Taijiguan. My question in this regard is, which DVD/Book (s) would be best to study before attending such a seminar.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,

I should start by DVD and book. By seminar they can make you moves and stances right. So you know a little of this style.

yeah, the traditional yang style book is a great starting point. And once you are a bit confident, I would suggest the martial applications one, since it helps a lot understanding each movement
