Duifang? I've not heard that term before, what is the translation?

In his book Chinese Swordmanship: The Yang Family Taiji Jian Tradition Scott Rodell presents the meaning of the term duifang as litterally translating as "opposite direction" and says it pertains to whomever one is engaging. However to provide a little more context he explains that there is no concept of opponent or enemy in taijiquan. What you face with taiji is the forces opposing you, no more no less. Those forces which are not harmonious can come from many places including attacking fists or even from inside ourselves. Taiji is thus concerned with harmony and balance of a mental, spiritual and physical nature and the term duifang is an embodiment of the straw dog nature of the forces we face.

Thats awesome, conceptually. Almost a subtle detachment. Yielding towards the forces you are working with, yet not resisting or not "unresisting".
