Frustrated with Popular Culture

Postby Urgeist » Thu May 13, 2010 4:41 pm

Is anyone else here annoyed / offended by how society at large perceives Kung Fu ? The stuff you see coming from Hollywood, the advertising industry, the internet, etc just seriously turns me off of kung fu. And dont forget how these things influence martial arts culture...

What does Kung Fu mean to me? Take a look at this video:

Kung-fu is like a seed that everyone has, but few people grow and tend it to allow it to bloom

When they see a person in bloom so many people fail to make the connection between that display and the potential that they have inside them.

Kung-fu is then about life being an investment, where we have been invested in by existence itself, we either make good on this investment, or we don't. Kung-fu is about making good on the investment of life.

the world, in glorious ignorance makes kung-fu seem to be about violence and martial arts, it isn't, for example a robot can be made that will kill, but it will never have kung-fu even if it can perform all of the martial arts found on this tiny planet.
