Hard jin and soft-hard jin ]-|-[ tiger/eagle/panther claws

Postby darth_freak » Mon Apr 02, 2007 12:21 pm

hey,

What's the difference between a hard jin and a soft-hard jin?
I thought that a hard jin was produced by pure muscles strength (a fa li?). But since we are told to relax and contract only at the end to let the power out, wouldn't that become a soft-hard jin? We're relax then we tense up.
Like in long fist punches and taiji: the power comes from the leg, directed by the waist and manifested to the hands. The only difference I see in taiji is the spine movement and pulling back the arm after the jin is emitted.

Also I'd like to know the difference between tiger, eagle and panther claws

Jin: From what I know, and please correct me if I'm wrong, all I can tell you is that hard jin is supposed to be tense all the way through and that soft-hard jin is as you described.
Tiger claw: The fingers are stiff and pointing forward facing the same direction as your palm. Thy are bent at the second joint forming a right angle.
Panther claw: The fingers are more steeply bent at the second joint, more hook-shaped than the tiger claw.
Eagle Claw: I don't know anything about this hand form, just that it is supposed to be really good for joint locks.
Anything goes.

Good question! The answer is discussed in this article by Master Yang hosted on FightingArts.com:
