Not martial arts....just more 'Shaolin' Wushu gymnastics. Such kicks have no practical fighting use.
Sorry, doesn't impress!

I have seen such moves used to avoid leg sweeps but they are mostly for show. The standard cartwheel is used in a number of arts however as someone who has played a little Capoeira the "monk"'s cartwheels aren't good as he is looking at the ground when really he should be looking towards his opponent or in his case the camera.

Brian - Incorrect. Butterfly kick is a traditional Shaolin training. It is meant for quick evasions primarily and not kicks, since it has no root.

It is taught by Dr. Yang in Shaolin Kung Fu Fundamental Training DVD
http://ymaa.com/publishing/dvd/kungfu_D ... kungfu_DVD

and in Kung Fu Body Conditioning DVD1.

So, you do actually agree with what I said....these 'cartwheels' have no practical use in fighting! especially since, as you say, they have no root.

Incorrect?...I think not.

You said "Not martial arts." I corrected you and said that these techniques come from Shaolin, they are traditional, and worthwhile training.

I agree that they are not the ideal kick for most situations, and are primarily for evasion.
