Absolutely agree....over the many years that I have been training martial arts I (and others) have often spontaneously started 'training' in, not just kitchens, but in my office in work, the work canteen, the living room at home, friends' living rooms and kitchens, parks, woods....etc.

Once the martial art is in your blood, then it becomes quite a natural thing to do.

Once, during lunch at a conference, a participant (also a martial artist) and sitting opposite me, started going through the motions of a nunchaku kata....at the table!!

Yes, a lot more common than you might imagine!!

I'm a patient for an autism spectrum disorder. In fact, that delayed my training for years. I never thought it was possible. Regardless, one of the symptoms I grapple with is informally referred to as stimming. Certain types of autism disorders force patients to go through a certain set of motions. This is usually illustrated as wrist flapping in the popular media, but there are actually a wide variety of different motions that one might take.

Since I've started my training, I've slowly started to notice that some of these motions have been replaced with what's called kitchen training here. I originally thought it was almost symptomatic of something, but it's actually quite beneficial. I'd much rather end up in Bao Hu Gui Shan than flailing a limb or something. Training has also helped me to focus on control over the limbs so that I don't have the indignity of doing that in public as well.
